Honor Society Application Portal
The following Honor Societies utilized the application portal in 2024:
- The Anderson Society
- Blue Key Honor Society
- Cardinal Key
- The Carl A. Elliott Society
- Lambda Sigma
- Mortar Board
- Omicron Delta Kappa
- Iota Iota Iota (Women’s Studies)
I missed the deadline. Can I still apply?
No. The portal cannot be reopened. However, there are more honor societies to explore on mysource. Search for Honor Society category for a detailed search.
When will I be notified about selections?
- Selected applicants of Blue Key, Anderson Society, Mortar Board and Omicron Delta Kappa (ODK) will be notified by CCHS. Applicants will each receive an email saying they have “been selected into one or more senior honor societies or will be recognized for an Outstanding Student Award or other recognitions .” These individuals are recognized at the tapping ceremony, but it is tradition to keep it a secret.
- Selections emails for Blue Key, Anderson Society, Mortar Board, and Omicron Delta Kappa and Outstanding Student Awards will be distributed by CCHS as well and often by the organization who does the selections.
- Cardinal Key, Elliott Society, Lambda Sigma, and Triota notify their inductees separately and on their own timelines. If you have questions about the process, please contact the organization directly.
How do I know if I was NOT selected?
Some honoraries send notifications if a student is NOT selected, but some chose not to notify students directly. CCHS does not send rejection emails on behalf of the 4 senior honor societies or outstanding student awardees.
I met all the criteria, have a 4.0, and I’m highly involved. There must be a mistake and I was not selected.
The Senior Honorary and Outstanding Student Award process at The University of Alabama is HIGHLY selective. Meeting the criteria does not equal acceptance. Many students apply, most exceeding the criteria, and there are a limited number of applicants selected. This is a highly competitive process. We encourage you to not be discouraged, but consider applying again next year. There are many qualified applicants that go through the selections process and this is not a reflection of your collegiate success or amazingness.
Outstanding Student Awards
I made a mistake on my application. Can I fix it?
Students should contact the sponsoring organization directly regarding any application issues. See Outstanding Student Awards for contact information.
When will I be notified?
You may or may not be notified prior to Honors Day. Some organizations notify the award winners, while others do not. If they have been selected to win an award, they and their family will be invited to the Honors Day Ceremony.
It is up to each sponsoring organization whether they send rejection notifications.
Did my application go through?
Student should contact the sponsoring organization.
Parents
How many groups will my student be inducted into? Did they receive an award?
Some family members want to know the status of their student because they are trying to decide if they should attend. Parents listed on their students application will receive an email notification of their students selection to one or more honors. To preserve the “surprise” element, we do not divulge which groups the student was selected into.
Is the ceremony a big deal?
Yes, it is one of the longest standing traditions at The University of Alabama.
